A canker sore is a common form of mouth ulcer, which appears as a painful white or yellow ulcer surrounded by a bright red area. A canker sore can be triggered by emotional stress, dietary deficiencies, menstrual periods, hormonal changes, food allergies or trauma in the mouth. Canker sores usually heal without treatment within two weeks.

What do they?
Alone or in groups, the canker sores like a kind of small crater white, rounded and very localized (language, gums, lining of the mouth), which becomes painful every time we eat.

Where do they come?
If their origin is unknown, recurrences are often linked to dietary factors, infectious, hormonal and overwork. In case, acidic foods (citrus, vinegar), the gruyere, dried fruits, drinks too hot or very flat spices. The same is true with certain diseases of the liver, gall bladder or kidneys.

What are the symptoms?

Canker sores are usually found on the movable parts of the mouth, such as the tongue or the inside lining of the lips and cheeks, and at the base of the gums. The ulcers begin as small oval or round reddish swellings that usually burst within a day. The ruptured sores are covered by a thin white or yellow membrane and edged by a red halo. Generally, the sores heal within two weeks without scarring. Fever is rare, and the sores are rarely associated with other diseases. Usually, a person has only one or a few canker sores at a time.

Most people experience their first bout with canker sores between the ages of 10 and 20. Children as young as 2 years old, however, can develop the condition. The frequency of canker sore recurrences varies considerably. Some people have only one or two episodes a year, while others may have a continuous series of canker sores.

What can we do?
The problem is that there is no miracle solution. At most we can prevent their appearance by good oral hygiene. When canker sores are, will only take some months at least, they most often disappear spontaneously after ten days. In the meantime, it is better to remove food HIM. To ease the pain and reduce inflammation, the brush with a cotton swab soaked in an antiseptic solution can be effective. Although too, gargle (especially not swallow) a soluble aspirin.
